On the 24th April 2021, the restored grave of Andrew Watson (24 May 1856 – 8 March 1921) was unveiled with a commemoration ceremony. It marked 100 years since Andrew passed. Andrew was a Scottish footballer who is widely considered to be the world's first black person to play association football at international level.
Several members of loonyalba, the London based scottish supporters club, were in attendance and the club laid a wreath to commemorate this remarkable man. Llew Walker, the author of "Andrew Watson, a Straggling Life: The Story of the World's First Black International Footballer" was also in attendance and produced a memorial booklet to mark the day. Here it is. Enjoy!
